Defibrillation Course

Cardiac Arrest is the biggest killer in this country.  Over 150,000 die as a result.  Many could have been saved if a defibrillator was made available.  Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) are now becoming more common throughout a range of workplaces.

A casualty’s survival rate will dramatically increase if an AED is available and if you have appropriately qualified personnel to use it.

This very practical course will allow suitably qualified First Aid personnel to use the AED competently and with confidence.  Not only does this course deal with the use of an AED, but it also re-visits some basic First Aid skills, including resuscitation.

Duration: A 6 hour course consisting of theory and practical work along with an assessment.

A range of subjects is covered including:

  • Assessment of the situation
  • Chain of survival
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Resuscitation
  • Heart Attacks
  • AED – Maintenance
  • AED – Safety measures
  • AED – its use
  • Scenario training
  • Responsibilities
  • Odds of survival
  • Paediatric Defibrillation

Certification: There is a formal assessment at the start of the day in order to ensure that all students can resuscitate effectively.  In addition to this, there is an assessment at the end of the course including practical use of the AED.  This qualification is valid for 3 months.  It is recommended that scenario training is conducted periodically and a formal update is run at the end of 12 months.
